Blessed Are The Resentful For They Shall Inherit The Earth
The resentful are more cunning and deceitful than others. They shall inherit the earth.
Life is a survival game; those best equipped to persist are more deceitful or more brutal than others. The natural response of the average person to the success of others is envy and resentment. If others are doing well and we are not, we will feel threatened, and there will be a desire to redress the situation.
The resentful find themselves in a position of diminished power and without the resources to change their status. However, the resentful tend to be more cunning and use any means to topple the existing power possessors. Their cunning might mean elevating their resentment and disguising it as morality. According to Nietzsche, this worked very well in the Christian tradition where weakness was disguised as strength: “the meek shall inherit the Earth” and so on. The Church used these declarations of disguised weakness to great effect and created a whole superstructure of privileged people in the form of priests and the hierarchy above them while simultaneously persuading the poor that they were righteous.
