When asleep, we are like unconscious grubs needing nothing from the environment. Consciousness is only needed to navigate the world for resources and address any issues relevant to survival. Our daytime consciousness is survival consciousness, and it excels at this function. It has evolved to enhance our survival prospects and not to figure out how the universe works or solve logic problems.
