Hiding Under Big Words
Don't let the big words intimidate you; they are often uttered by frightened, confused people.
Einstein believed that confused people hide under big words and that simplicity of expression denotes understanding and clarity. If this is true, then much of academia is rapidly creating an unintelligible world where participants invent big new words to form small elitist groups. This is true of most disciplines, and one can only assume that the need to be an elitist is borne of some terrible sense of inadequacy and the need to persuade people with funding that something new and important is being done.
