More on Doing Nothing
Doing nothing will put you on par with the antichrist. Expect criticism and resistance.
Almost everything in life will fight against you doing nothing. Our consumer society will resist it since nothing is being consumed when we do nothing. The survival drive will resist it because it is hyper-vigilant and looks for threats and opportunities, driving us to make ongoing efforts to ensure everything is okay. Our superego will not approve of us doing nothing. It is programmed by major influencers such as parents and society at large, and in most of us, it will insist on effort, ambition, and productivity. Such is our society that a person adopting a lifestyle that indulges in doing nothing when there are no needs will meet with disapproval from family, friends, partners, and anyone else who expects you to act as host to their parasitic need for distraction. Common criticism might include “you should enjoy life” or “don’t be miserable.”. You might have already concluded that doing nothing will require courage, and you would be correct. The more unhappy a person is, the more they object to your inactivity. Hence, it’s best not to mix with noisy, manic people desperately trying to cover over their unhappiness.
