The age of religion seems to be fading by the year, yet its poison lingers. Its most potent poison is the idea that we all need improvement; we are somehow flawed. Traditionally, it might have been our sinful nature that needed to be eliminated, or more recently, with the wholesale import of Eastern spiritual nonsense, we need to become enlightened or wake up. This idea of our improvement is so deeply ingrained that to challenge it might provoke unbearable anxiety in many people.
